CoGSAYR Africa Summit 2026: Advancing Innovation in Genomics and Bioinformatics in Africa

CoGSAYR Africa Summit 2026
The Consortium of Genomics Students and Young Researchers in Africa (CoGSAYR) is pleased to announce the CoGSAYR Africa Summit 2026, the largest gathering of genomics students and early career researchers on the continent. The summit will take place from January 29-31 2026 at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in Lagos. This landmark event will convene students, researchers, and professionals to inspire interest, foster collaboration, and build capacity for the next generation of African genomic scientists.
About CoGSAYR
CoGSAYR is a youth-led organization established to encourage enthusiasm and active participation among students and early career researchers interested in genomics research. Recognizing the critical need to address the gap in African genomic data, the consortium provides a collaborative platform that empowers scientists and clinicians to make significant contributions to genomic research in the African context. Guided by the values of collaboration, innovation, equity, and excellence, CoGSAYR is committed to creating opportunities that enable young researchers to thrive through training programs, strategic partnerships, and collaborative projects.
Strengthening Africa’s Genomics Capacity
Africa’s contribution to global genomics research remains limited, with a significant disparity between the genomic data generated on the continent and that of other regions. Addressing this gap requires increased funding, improved research infrastructure, and sustained sponsorship of initiatives that advance genomics research.
The Consortium of Genomics Students and Young Researchers in Africa (CoGSAYR) is uniquely positioned to lead this effort by organizing the first African conference dedicated to genomics students and young researchers. Leveraging its diverse membership from over 11 African countries and the guidance of experienced faculty advisers from across the continent, CoGSAYR aims to create a platform that drives innovation, collaboration, and capacity building in African genomics.
Join Us in Shaping the Future of African Genomics
The CoGSAYR Africa Summit 2026 is more than an event. It is an opportunity to be part of a movement that will define the trajectory of genomics research on the continent. We invite students, researchers, institutions, and industry partners to attend, contribute, and support this groundbreaking initiative. Your participation or sponsorship will help empower the next generation of African genomic scientists and ensure that Africa takes its rightful place in the global genomics landscape.
